Sofia is born, a beautiful day, on December 16, 2000, very healthy and filling our home with joy. When she was four months old, a virus affected her health, apparently without consequences. One month after this episode, Sofia presented symptoms of heart failure, getting to the conclusion that the virus had caused a secondary dilated cardiomyopathy, with significant damage to the left ventricle, and that she would need a heart transplant.
After arriving in this generous and beautiful country, a second medical opinion confirmed that Sofia was a candidate for a transplant, and that it was very important to do it as soon as possible, since she was at very high risk. Her name was added to the waiting list, and that was her first gift of life, because her heart arrived just two weeks later!
The love and generosity of one family, gave Sofia a second chance to live again with an adequate quality of life that has allowed her to fulfill many of her dreams and reach the happiness of living a normal life. She performs all kinds of activities: dancing, attending her school, currently a cheerleader; she is doing all the activities proper of a teenager.
For the rest of our life, our heart will be always grateful to those loving parents who one day decided that their child would continue living and giving life to other children so that they would have the opportunity to make that beautiful gift of life flourish.
